Sat. 4-6-19

Hello! It's Saturday morning about 11 AM and I forgot to do my monthly blog. If for some reason this blog post does not get upgraded, it may be due to the fact that Google is restructuring there products or I'm dead.

The reason I bring that up is because they forced me to log in and fill out some paperwork before I was able to start the blog as normal. I don't like change, do you? I've learned that people are pretty content with the way things are or they change it themselves, they don't need somebody else changing things for them.

I saw the orthopedic doctor yesterday concerning the accident I was involved in on July 1, 2018. In case you didn't hear about it, I was coming home from church and the traffic on the freeway came to a complete stop. I was able to stop, but the guy driving behind me ran into the back of my van in total out the van. I have high hopes that my neck injury and shoulder injury will eventually return to normal, ever optimistic.

I've been able to go out and video some surfing and that's always fun. This morning I had breakfast with pastor Mike who came down from Dana point to visit his father and mother. It's always nice to see Mike. He's a great guy and he and Denise are doing well. Here is what it looked like at Cardiff yesterday morning before the rain.

I have a trip planned at the end of the year, yes to Hawaii. My last trip was supposed to be my last trip, but I had such a good time with all the people I met all the new friends, I'm going back again and this time only taking one drone, it's just too much luggage to carry for one person, caring to complete drone setups.

I hope that you have a fantastic Easter! Remember why we are celebrating, it's not about the Easter Bunny, it's not about Easter eggs, it's about the death, burial and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Paul the apostle says, "If there be no resurrection, then we are the most miserable of all men". The Resurrection is so important as Paul points out that if there is no such thing then, "Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow you die". So let's focus on what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary, his body was in the tomb for 3 days and then he arose again on Resurrection Sunday! Can I get an Amen and hallelujah? If that doesn't float your boat, you need to check your relationship with the Creator of the Universe.

Maranatha,
Frank

PS I still miss my girl. I don't think it's ever going away.

3-2-19 Sat.

This year has started off fast. We are getting lots of rain, which of course is good. But it makes it difficult to have good conditions to video the surf for my surf videos.
I just uploaded the first in a five part series of the North Shore of Oahu, the Surfing Capitol of the World. If you have not seen it, go to Youtube, type in Frank Kovacs and click on the the pic of me in the White Muscle shirt. Best viewed on a smart TV.
My grandson's have sore throats so I will not be able to take them out today. They are so cute! Of course everyone's grand kids are cute, right?
My good friend Ricardo from Hawaii, called and said that he canceled the trip to Peru and may be going to Europe at the end of Summer. So I may go and house sit for him, if this comes to pass.
I sure miss my Girl. You know every thing around the house reminds me of Harriet. She was/is so great!
Hopefully I will have more for you next month.
Maranatha!

Feb. 2nd Sat.

February 2nd, Ground Hog Day and also Harriet's mother Evelyn's birthday.

I made it home from Hawaii, what a great trip. I posted 19 videos to my YouTube channel. If you have not seen any, go to YouTube, type: Frank Kovacs and then click on my pic, I am wearing a while muscle shirt.

The last morning, Ricardo and his fiance Lisa took me out to breakfast. Here is a picture of us.
Ricardo's friendship and hospitality were the best and unexpected. We spent a lot of time together. He is by far the most knowledgeable man I know concerning Surf and Hawaii History, he spoke and I listened. There are so many interesting things he shared with me and I will incorporate some of the facts info into my future videos.
On Jan. 12th and 13th a big swell came though to Wiamea Bay. On the 12th went to a secret place on the cliffs over looking Wiamea Bay. There are ruins of a Hawaiian temple on site. You are only allowed to walk around the perimeter. After launching my DJI Inspire 2 drone I videoed the waves below. When I landed and changed batteries this pickup drove up and they were playing the Hawaiian music I like and I signaled them in a positive manner that I liked the music and I even asked them what station they were listing too? They told me it was from YouTube.  They were very friendly! One guy was dressed in traditional Hawaiian Garb. He went on the the temple proper and started speaking Hawaiian in a very load voice like an incantation or something.
I was just going to launch my drone again and one of the Hawaiian's came up and asked it I would video the guy and of course I jumped at the chance. This is not a performance, this is the real deal. Only Hawaiian royalty are allowed within the temple grounds. He is a decedent of kings going back about 300 years. 3 Generations before King Kamaiamaia the Great. I am going to include a few pics. The video is way better, but of course the drone does not record sound.
I would venture to say that not many have ever seen this blessing ceremony and to get a video of it is over the top cool! This is Historical for me and not religious.

The next pic is of the Chief and myself. I copied the video files and pictures so that he can have them.
I made dozens of friends and it really was amazing and unexpected. I was just going to video the surf and ended up with this amazing adventure of a Lifetime.

This trip was supposed to be my last trip to Hawaii. The evening before I returned home, Ricardo asked if I would be interested in housesitting his home in April when he and his fiancée fly to Peru for a couple of weeks. I sent him an email yesterday saying that if the offer is still open I would like to do that. So, I'll let you know next month if the trip is on or not. It's sort of an offer I couldn't refuse.

Well, that's it for this month. I'm going to include some pictures of my girl. I still miss her. I was telling my friend Bill yesterday, Harriet's organization skills were incredible. It takes me a long time to put things away and figure out where things go and I'm referring to coming home from a trip and putting things back to where they belong. I love you Harriet!

Frank

1-5-19 Sat

Aloha from the North Shore of Oahu! I arrived on the 17th of Dec. and I will be back Home on the 19th of Jan. I came here to video the big waves on the North Shore. I was not disappointed. If you have not watched any of my videos I will send you one link, it is Part 2 on Jan. 2nd. The waves were good earlier on Part one same day, but when the sun comes out it was most Excellent!

https://youtu.be/pSsfuPj5dyc

If you know how to watch this on your Smart TV. If you don't know if your TV is smart or not, it probably is not, you can watch this on your computer.

I have made many friends. I was videoing with my drone at Sunset Beach on the day after Christmas, Ricardo, the guy without a shirt came out of the water and I told him he got a good wave. I am recording all the rides. He introduced me to all these guys, they are all famous surfers. Ricardo is 7 years younger than I but we clicked and he adopted me. He has introduced me to dozens of surfers that are regulars. He lives across the street from Sunset Beach and he invited me over to his home. When I drove through the gate the thought that came to my mind is Robin's Nest, from Magnum PI. We have spent almost every day together, he surfs, I video. Classic Hawaiian Surfer. His bother won the World Surfing Championship in 1965. He is not a Christian, but he is a very classy guy and the most Hospitable Man I have ever met. He has surfboards hanging in every room of his house and their are all pristine. He knows the history of each board. His knowledge of surfing and surfing history is unparalleled in my experience.

This type of board is called a Gun. It is built for big waves and speed. He surfs the classic Hawaiian style and I think it is so graceful. I will include a pic I garbed of one of his rides on the video I mentioned.
 Ricardo Pomar ripping it up.

As you can see that this is a trip of a life time for me. But I would give it up in a heart beat to have my girl back.

It has been almost 3.5 years since my dear wife Harriet went home to be with the Lord. I miss her everyday and that will not change. No matter where I go I remember the times we were there together. Hawaii was our special place. It was just us and we loved to be together. I think next month will be my last blog post. I will put together a bunch of pics of her. Life goes on, empty because of the space in my heart that can never be filled by anyone else. When I think of things like this I get sad, but I realize that as I told my father when my mother, his wife died, she is better off there and do you really think she would want to come back after being in the presence of the the Creator, our Savior Lord Jesus? Same goes for me, I understand this, but I am selfish and would love to have her here again.

This pic is taken at Duke's one of our favorite places to he on the South Side.

 God bless you and Maranatha,
Frank and Harriet

12-1-18 Sat

Well, I'm in real trouble! I got a nasty email from my good friend Larry and he only asked one question with one word, "Blog?????" because I forgot to put the blog out this morning so here it is almost noon and I'm working on it.

How was your Thanksgiving? This Thanksgiving I was giving thanks for Harriet. I'm so thankful that God gave me a godly woman, that was beautiful, hard-working, disciplined, cooked, cleaned and she love me in spite of my shortcomings. That is true love! Of course I loved her the same way, but I feel it was a lot easier, because she wasn't perfect but just close, real close. I Still Love You Honey!

I've been keeping busy, it seems that there's always something to do. Now that we are in December officially I'm going to get ready for my trip to Hawaii. I leave on December 17th and return on January 18th. I have to get all my drone equipment ready which means, draining the batteries to less than 20% and packing them carefully so there are no problems when transported to Hawaii. Batteries cannot be shipped on a passenger plane they have to go to cargo plane. I'll show you some of the warning stickers that I have to put on the box and it's not cheap to send them because they weigh so much. But, I've got it get them over there or else I can't fly and make the surf videos.

I'm hoping for a couple of good North swells to come through while I'm there. I'm staying on the North Shore of Oahu about a half a block from the beach close to Foodland if you know where that is. Lord willing, I'll have some great pictures to share with you.

Every year when we went to Hawaii, we would get a picture of the 2 of us at our favorite restaurant which is Dukes. That's where this first picture was taken. This picture was taken in 2007. Harriet is beautiful and I'm overweight.

In 2001, it was the first time we had ever gone to Hawaii and we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary a few days earlier. Our wedding anniversary is on September 4 which also happens to be my mother's birthday. But look at the year, 2001. 7 days after our anniversary, it was 9/11. We were planning to leave on 23 September for Hawaii. After 9/11 it seems like 95% of people decided not to travel to Hawaii or anywhere else by air because of the hijackers. Harriet and I were going regardless. It was amazing Waikiki was almost empty of tourists and we had a great time. Here's a picture.
Boy, Harriet really is beautiful! Not only on the outside but on the inside too!

I know this is early, I would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!  The next blog post should be from Hawaii.

Maranatha,
Frank

11-3-18 Sat.

This year seems to be going by so quickly! Here we are in November getting ready for Thanksgiving.

During this past month I've had the opportunity to take my grandson Timothy out for some driving lessons. He had his learning permit, so I took them over to Blossom Valley and we drove around there for hours. He actually was doing pretty good and then I took them out on the freeway and we drove on the freeway toward El Centro. This was over a period of days, not all on the same day.

I mentioned this to Sarah and our daughter Sarah said that Lilly is also learning to drive and it is "scary, scary"! I thought that described it very well.

On Wednesday mornings I meet with our son Daniel at Emma's Mexican restaurant in Santee. I took a picture of him this last Wednesday because of the food that he ordered it was so huge. Here's the picture, he had the chimichanga breakfast plate if you're interested in ordering.

Afterwards he comes over to my house and we watch an action movie and critique it. Along with catching up on all the things that happened in the past week. Most of you know that Daniel is driving Uber. So every week he has some unusual stories. I thought he had an interesting observation this last Wednesday. He's only responding to what he sees and talking to people that are getting in and out of his vehicle. He made this comment about Halloween and I'm quoting as closely as I can, "Halloween gives the girls an opportunity to dress is slutty as they want and men to put on a dress and say, it's just Halloween"! I don't really feel comfortable about telling you how little clothing the women have on that he mentioned, it's less than a 2 piece bathing suit at the beach.

My friends Larry, Bob and I videoed the Tourmaline Surf Contest early in October and I'm can try and add a link here in case you're interested in seeing what it looks like.

I think that's about it for this month. I'll include a picture of my girl. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving day and may the Lord bless and keep you and may his face shine upon you all the days your life!

Frank
